ChessVG
ChessVG is a free, browser-based tool for turning any chess position into a clean, good-looking image. It is built for content creators, coaches, streamers, and writers who need board graphics for social posts, thumbnails, lesson slides, blog diagrams, and study material. No account, nothing uploaded to a server, and no cost.
What it does
Most chess sites can show you a position, but they are built for playing and analyzing, not for producing a polished picture. ChessVG fills that gap. You set up a position, style it exactly how you want, and export a high quality PNG or a crisp SVG that is ready to publish.
Features
- Flexible position setup. Drag pieces freely, or paste a FEN string. Illegal or artificial setups are allowed, because this is an image tool, not an engine.
- Load real puzzles. Pull a random or daily puzzle from the free Lichess puzzle database straight onto the board, then style and export it.
- 14 piece sets and a dozen curated themes, plus full control over square colors, frame, corner radius, padding, shadow, and coordinates.
- Backgrounds. Solid color, gradient, an uploaded image, or transparent for overlaying on your own design.
- Export anywhere. Download a PNG at a custom resolution, a vector SVG, or a ready-sized image for Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Reddit, X, and YouTube.
How to use it
- Position or Puzzle tab. Drag pieces, paste a FEN, or load a Lichess puzzle.
- Style tab. Pick a theme, piece set, and colors; tune the frame, corners, padding, and shadow.
- Background tab. Solid, gradient, image, or transparent.
- Export tab. Choose PNG, SVG, or a social preset and download.
Support this project
ChessVG is free and always will be. If it saves you time or makes your content look better, you can support ongoing development with a small tip on Ko-fi. It genuinely helps.
Who makes this
ChessVG is built by the team behind ChessSolve, a real-time chess analysis tool that overlays live Stockfish best-move arrows and an evaluation bar directly on your Chess.com and Lichess board while you play. If you find ChessVG useful, you may enjoy trying ChessSolve too.
